Bush Dry. My first enounter with this bean was John Withee's Wanigan Associates bean network in the late 1970's. John had grown up in the state of Maine and was familiar with Maine logging camps and this beans connection with them. Frederick Wiseman's Seeds of Renewal Project had identifed this bean also as having Abenaki roots in New England. Seed donor of this variety is Ben Levitt of Hardwick, Vermont.

Maria Amazilitei

Pole Snap. Wax variety from the Remy Orlowski collection (Sample Seed Shop). Originates in Romania. There is a tomato variety of the same name.

Marvel Of Nictaux

Pole. Sent to me by Owen Bridge of Annapolis Seeds, Nova Scotia, Canada in the spring of 2012. As he puts it, "I grew a row of McGrath’s Africa, a pole bean with big purple pods and cream coloured seeds. A single plant in that row wanted to be a non-conformist, and sent out eye-catching streaked pods and seeds".

Mary Ison's Little Brown Bunch

Semi Runner. This little bean has traded around Seed Savers Exchange as far back as the 1980's. Said to have a excellent buttery flavor as a dry bean. Mary Ison grew this bean for 40 years in Kentucky. My seed donor of this bean is from Alden, Michigan in 2019.

Bush Snap. French stringless wax bean. Plants are compact. Pods are straight and round.

Mayacoba

Bush Dry. Sent to me by a German bean grower in Jevenstedt, Germany. A bean traditionally grown in coastal places and in Andean Valleys of Peru.

Mayan Red

Semi Runner Dry. Plants grow to about two feet tall. They are very productive producing solid reddish pink pods as the seed matures then drying to the typical light tan color of a beans dry pod. My seed donor is Tamara Clement of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada 2021.

Meerbarbe

Pole. My original seed donor is my bean frined from Liebenfels, Austria. I picked up a few more seeds of this bean up in a trade at the Central Michigan Seed Swap. February 23, 2019 Midland, Michigan. Bluish seeds can sometime produce tan seeds. Bean maybe soil sensitive with it's color swings.

Melungeon

Pole. Acquired from the Remy Orlowski seed collection (Sample Seed Shop) via Karen Golden after the Central Indiana seed swap in January 2022. Seed similar to Ohio Pole and Zona Upchurch. Similar in season of maturity. Large green pods that become wrinkled when dry.

Meraviglia di Venizia

Pole Wax. Vigorous plants produce up to 10 inch long fat tender yellow pods. Variety has been sold by Franchi Seeds, Italy's oldest family-owned seed company. My seed donor is from Potter Valley, California 2013.

Mestia Svaneti

Pole. One of the many beans that have been collected by Joseph Simcox in the country of Georgia. Upon growing out this seed it looks very much like Lilascheke. My seed donor is Karen Golden of Highland, Michigan 2019.

Bush Snap. Italian snap bean. My seed donor is Manuelle Mangani of Cortona, Italy 2012.

Milk And Cider

Pole Dry. Similar looking seed as Turkey Craw. My seed donor is John Coykendall of Knoxville, Tennessee. John sourced this variety from a 90 year old gardener in Claiborne County, Tennessee.

Pole Dry. This bean is from my bean friend in Liebenfels, Austria in 2018. She pulled it out of a bean soup mix from the Sarconi Seed Company of Italy.

Millenium

Semi Runner Dry. I am calling this bean a semi runner but don’t really know if it is. The beans appear so similar to Black Turtle that I do suspect this bean will grow the same way. Sent to me by a bean farmer in Twin Falls, Idaho, 2020. He told me it was a very popular bean 20 years ago and now nobody seems to want them.

Missouri Wonder

Pole Snap. An old Missouri heirloom. This has been tradionally been planted in cornfields with the corn plants as support. The seeds that look much like a supermarket pinto can be used as a dry bean. My seed donor from Potter Valley, California 2013.

Molley's Zebra

Pole Snap. My seed donor from South Africa is actually a Australian citizen who travels to and from SA to his homeland from time to time. This bean is an Australian variety. I highly suspect that the developers of the bean might have named the bean after Australian Bill Mollison who developed and promoted the theory and practice of permaculture".

Monachelle Di Norcia

Pole Dry. My seed donor for this bean is from Valpiano, Itlay, 2019.

Monachine

Pole Wax. Grown for nearly half a century in his Seatle garden by Angelo Pellegrini who was a renowned English Professor and great voices of American culinary literature. Author of “The Unprejudiced Palate” (1948), “The Food Lovers Garden” (1970), “Lean Years, Happy Years” (1983). After his death in 1991 his son Brent cultivates the Pellegrini family heirloom. The bean is not about genetics, but culture and the connection it has all the way back to the little villages in Italy.

Montezuma Red

Semi Runner Dry. Originally from South and Central America the bean has been popular in California since the mid-1800's. My seed donor from Potter Valley, California 2013.

Mooriemer Suppenbohne

Bush. The variety has been known in Europe before 1940. Country of origin is Switzerland. My seed donor is from Willich, Germany, 2019.

Mother Earth

Pole Dry. Seed about the size of a navy bean. Sent to me by native American Stephen McComber in 2017. Authentic native bean.

Mountain White Half Runner

Half Runner. Said to be bushy with vigorous vines and has short runners. Produces good yeilds of 4 inch pods.Also reistant to mosaic virus I would probably grow it on my hog panels like I do other semi runner beans. In Kentucky at seed swaps I have had people asking if I had this bean with me. I think this is a variety that someone probably gave me at the Livingston, Tennesse seed swap in October 2018.

Mpumalanga Boonjies

Semi Runner. My seed donor is from Hercules, South Africa, 2013. The variety is an Ndebele tribal bean.

Mr. Tung

Pole Snap. Brought to Canada in the early 1900’s by a Mr. Tung who was a Chinese immigrant. My seed donor of this bean is Brynn Pailett of Lebanon, Tennessee 2018. In the summer of 2023 this bean has become another of my all time favorite snap beans. I picked Mr. Tung pods up to 8 inches delicious and stringless. One of our Canadian network growers on Victoria Island Annette Barley in years past has given this bean glowing praise also. Dry pods are not the easiest or the hardest to hand shell but they shell quite cleanly. The dry pods don't produce much chaff.
