Pole Lima. I’ve grown a white seeded version. Willow leaf limas have narrow leaves that look just like the leaves on a willow tree. The origin of the Willow leaf limas I don’t really know but I would suspect they are probably native American.

Pole Dry. Vines to 8 feet. Pods to 5 inches, slightly curved with some burgundy streaks which contain very large borlotto (or cranberry) type beans. San Stephano is the name of a church in Aveto, Italy. One of the many beans from Joseph Simcox "The Botanical Explorer".

Bush Snap. Bean was bred by David Sachs of Quedlinburg, Germany. David's seed business was known as Seed Nursery of David Sachs. Descriptions of this bean appeared in German seed catalogs as early as 1913. This bean was also used by Sachs to breed another European snap bean called Conserva which was a cross of Alpha and Saxa. Seed donor from Drevhostic, Czech Republic, 2019.

Bush Dry. Bred by Professor Elwyn Meader plant breeder and horticultural professor at the University of New Hampshire, Durham, New Hampshire (1948-1966). The bean was released in 1954. Sold by the Hepler Seed Co. Billy Hepler was 12 when he started his fledgling Seed Co. Parentage: Shelleasy x Rhode Island pole horticulture. This was a purchase from the Vermont Bean Seed Company in 2011.

Bush dry. Originally an outcrossed bean from the bean collection of Ernest B. Dana of Etna, New Hampshire. Dana was a member of the Seed Savers Exchange in the 1980's. He sent this bean to John Withee of Wanigan Associates, Lynnfield, Massachusetts 1970. John Withee in turn donated a portion of his Wanigan seed stocks to Seed Savers Exchange in 1981. I acquired a sample of this bean from SSE in 2015.
